2006: Santa Ana becomes the first city in Orange County to pass a tobacco retail license ordinance unanimously after 6 years of work by the OC Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition and Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP).

2006: November 16, 2006: UCI Medical Center in Orange becomes a totally smokefree campus with year long technical assistance from TUPP.
(2004): Mission Hospital becomes a totally smokefree campus with year long TUPP technical assistance.

2006: Coalition and TUPP worked cooperatively with the Great Park in Irvine to make it a mostly smokefree park when it opens.

2006: Coalition narrowly lost County of Orange smokefree beach ordinance (2-2)–however, this will be revisited next year!

2005: TUPP obtained approval from the CSU Nature Sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon to become smokefree.

2004-2005….Orange County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition leads and coordinates effort for the 2nd smokefree beach ordinance on the West Coast (San Clemente). Within the next year, 4 other cities (Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach all passed 100% smokefree beach ordinances. At the same time, Seal Beach also passed a smokefree parks ordinance for all 9 parks.

2005- Tobacco Use Prevention Program provides timely technical assistance to Laguna Woods, which passed a smokefree ordinance covering no smoking in outdoor areas of restaurants, city events, multi-unit recreational facilities, bus stops.

2005–Laguna Hills: passed a smokefree parks ordinance for their city.

To date: TUPP continues to assist with complaint resolution and the compliance of the California Smokefree Workplace Law in 34 cities and the unincorporated area.

CA Health and Safety Section 104495 (No smoking within 25 feet of tot lots). TUPP has assisted with the education and compliance with all cities in OC.

CA Government Code Sections 7596-7598 (no smoking within 20 feet of all State, County, and City government buildings and operable windows. TUPP had designed signs for placement and coordinated the effort for placement at hundreds of County buildings, and with other cities throughout Orange County.

To date: TUPP works with medical facilities, companies, and government organizations to institutionalize tobacco control measures and smoking cessation efforts.

To date: TUPP has been actively working with the Apartment Management community to develop policies for smokefree apartment sections, apartment buildings, and outdoor areas.

To date: TUPP is actively working with the restaurant community to develop smokefree outdoor patio areas.

A few years ago, prior to the Statewide law, the Coalition and TUPP also helped 7 OC cities pass vendor assisted ordinances.
